Garlic & Shrimp

What is a Shrimp? I’ve been eating shrimp ever since I can remember. My mom cooked them in many different ways such as soup, pan fried, and even steamed. And yet, I know nothing about these little crustaceans.

“Shrimp” n. a small free-swimming crustacean with an elongated body, typically marine and frequent harvested for food. Word Origin: middle english: probably related to Middle Low German schrempen ‘to wrinkle’, Middle High German schrimpfen ‘to contract’, also to scrimp.

There are approximately 2,000 species of Shrimps – Natantia(swimmers). Shrimps occur in all oceans-in shallow/deep, freshwater lakes/streams. They range in length from 1.5 to 8 inches. The larger kinds are called prawns. They swim backward by flexing their abdomen and tail.

Ingredients: Minced garlic, Butter, Salt, Pepper, Mirin (for added sweetness), and De-veined and shelled shrimps(leave the heads on for more flavor in the sauce).

Place everything in the pan and cover with a lid. Cook for 5-8 minutes in Medium high heat. The longer you cook it, the more saturated the infused garlic butter sauce will become.
